Day 12: Wayland
On our full day of the mid-trip we spent more time enjoying Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, reflecting and eating good food.
Our day began with breakfast at our hotel, in which I toasted (and retoasted) several pieces of buttery and crunchy bread.
Next we spent time journaling and reflecting on the days we've spent so far in our host community. We are halfway through our time here, and we set goals for our remaining half. At the end of the day we went around sharing our goals. One of mine that was echoed by many others was to ask more questions and be intentional about getting to know our host families. For me, I think this includes finding balance between understanding my position as a guest and feeling at home in my family’s house.
Mid-day we ate lunch at a restaurant that lived up to Matt’s promise that it would not disappoint. Whipped cream and waffles are so tasty!!
We spent the afternoon enjoying the beach. Off in the distance as the sun set we watched as birds formed a swirling vortex in the tropical updrafts — I believe they were hunting insects.
Now, after sharing our reflections and dinner at the hotel (pasta is so good!), we have our goals in mind as we return for the second half of our stay in our host community. Our time spent here in Puerto Viejo bonding as a group over card games, through conversations, and through spending time in the Caribbean sun we hope will make for an even better final week with our Bri Bri hosts.
